Jim Brann PhD RN CS

Jim Brann has been interested in alternative medicine before it was called alternative. He was learning and using meditation, breathing and visualization techniques in the mid-1970's to treat his own and other's headaches. By the late 1970's, he was teaching visualizations and breathing techniques to hospitalized patients to lower their blood pressure and diminish pain.

He received his RN in 1983 and began investigating the mind-body connection, particularly as related to illness and disabilities. He worked in many settings, including inpatient and outpatient mental health, mental retardation and with developmental disabilities. Meanwhile, he continued his studies into the integration of the mind and body, pursuing interests in the martial arts and studying various types of massage. He received his MSN from Rutgers University in 1994, having done his research on the psychological aspects of illness and disabilities.

He and his colleagues worked with a number of dialysis centers in the Philadelphia region to treat renal disease, incorporating several mind-body methods. The dialysis patients improved so rapidly and remarkably, that Dr. Brann and his associates were invited to speak at conventions and dialysis companies across the U.S. and Canada.
